As our feet are an integral part of our body and can have effects on other parts of the lower part of the body such as the lower back, ankles, legs and hips – it is paramount to address foot pain in order to rule it out as the cause for pain in other parts of the body. Do orthotics and insoles really help?

Orthotics are known to help position your feet in a way that can help relieve stress and pain on the feet as well as other parts of the body. Orthotics are not a complete solution to pain management as they do not permanently correct your feet but merely provide the correct support. Orthotics can help with realigning flat feet or high arches and relieve pain caused by the knock-on effects on the rest of the body such as the hips and knees.

Orthotics can even be used to help alleviate Arthritis pain in the toes while also providing extra, comfortable support which is great for your balance and confidence.

Why shouldn’t you use orthotics?

If you have been prescribed orthotics by a physician or sports therapy/medicine professional then it is advisable to follow this guidance. However, avoid depending on orthotics too much as the support provided acts as a double-edged sword so if you rely on insoles too much then you could experience weaker joints and muscles in the feet and ankles which can, of course, lead to more pain.

Similarly, if you should use orthotics and you don’t then you could experience pain in other parts of the body such as the back as a result of not using your orthotics enough.

Are Orthotics meant to hurt?

Orthotics and not meant to hurt, they are custom designed for comfort and to make sure they fit you perfectly so any pain can be caused by incorrect measuring or cutting. If your orthotics are uncomfortable then they could actually do more damage than relief, especially if the result is that the orthotics are overcorrecting

Can you order custom Orthotics?

Although we don’t offer a tailor-made orthotics service, Vasyli has numerous orthotics products that can be cut at home to provide a custom fit. The orthotics are heat-mouldable s they will fit naturally around your feet after wearing them for a short period.
