Resuscitation on the Field of Play

A Guide to Pitch Side CPR

In this presentation by the medical team at Ospreys Rugby, they go over the basics of resuscitation on the field of play including the signs and symptoms to look out for and the steps in the chain of survival in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Knowing how to respond in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest on the field of play is vital to help avoid long term patient damage.

A point that is demonstrated by the high profile instances of footballers going into cardiac arrest on the pitch over the past few years and how immediate pitch side CPR resulted in a happy outcome for most. This demonstrates the importance of learning how to properly assess the situation and carry out CPR.

We offer a large range of Trauma Care including Resuscitation products such as Resuscitation Face Masks for mouth to mouth resuscitation and Disposable Resuscitator Bag Valve and Mask.

While we don’t carry defibrillators in stock, we are always happy to try and source these. Just email [email protected] with your requirements for a quote.

It is worth noting that this presentation is for guidance, it is advised that you only attempt CPR or resuscitation if you have had training.

If you are looking to learn CPR so you can be better prepared in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest on the field of play, there are several organisations that offer courses varying from basic to advanced training including British Heart Foundation, St John's Ambulance and The British Red Cross. A quick internet search should be able to provide you with a list of providers offering courses at the level that you need.
