Muscle Release for Lower Back - Welsh Athletics Injury Exercises Series

Mechanical lower back pain occurs in the soft tissue or spine in the lower part of your back. It is very common in part because it can affect people who are athletes, sports people or otherwise physically active, as well as people who are less active.

Releasing tight muscles through exercise can also be useful in relieving lower back pain due to tension. One way to achieve this is to, very carefully, use a massage ball to target specific areas of tension.

This video with Welsh Athletics Lead Performance Physiotherapist, Adam Rattenberry, shows one way to achieve this.

Our range of massage balls can be found here: Massage Balls

It is perhaps best to do this exercise under the supervision of a medical professional, at least to start with. If you have an injury or niggle, you should always seek advice from a medical professional to address it or discuss options for injury prevention.
